After a weekend at Glastonbury festival a bit of relaxation was needed before heading home - Bath was the perfect place. I had booked a single room in the Abbey Hotel, perfect location & really nice room. The only downside the room has no air conditioning & as it must've been one of the hottest days of the year so far even with 2 fans the room remained really hot all night. Every evening outside the hotel at 8 o'clock there is a comedy walk around central Bath I would highly recommend this - on the night I went about 70 people were on the walk so it's really popular & it was hilarious, well worth £8 !!

1. Fire alarm went off at quarter to two in the morning. Good start 2. Seagull relieved itself voluminously at the bus stop. Why don't they move the bus stop to somewhere else or at the very least put up a very large bus shelter? Maybe they're sponsored by the taxi firms. Nice hotel receptionist helped me get clean - a major operation - and found me a taxi quickly.

The Abbey Hotel is very well located in the centre of town and within an easy walk of the train station. It was good not to have the car as traffic is heavy in town. There is an excellent selection of shops and attractions within easy walking and the open top bus tours made sightseeing even easier.

Couldn't sleep for the noise of seagulls outside hotel - in Bath!

Travelling by car, directions were nearly spot-on. A mini-roundabout has now changed to a junction with lights. Bath was a great place to visit. One night stay with two rooms (took my elderly mum). Abbey Hotel didn't advise us that they were not offering meals in the evening due to a private function (we'd arrived @21:15 - we'd pre-warned that we were going to be late checking-in). Ended up getting pie + yummy chips from the Fish & Chip shop near the shops. Milk was off and past expiry date in our room (staff dealt with it very well). Noisy pub nearby (but was warned on website). Biggest gripe wasn't really the hotel's fault - noisy departing guests at 06:30. Would use hotel again if wanting a central location. Breakfast was yummy. Just remembered: they wanted to clean the room at 09:00 even though we were leaving that day after breakfast (served until 10:30 on Sat.). Latest check-out was 11:00. Note about Manvers St car park -you can pay using credit/debit card. We paid on Fri evening for Sat's 08:00-20:00 period - save dashing to car park to feed meter first thing in the morning.

Bath is excellent place for short break, even when it rains all the time (as on our visit). There are museums/galleries apleny, but it is also very pleasant city to stroll round/take bus tour to admire the fabulous Georgian archetecture. There is good range odf small shops outside the big chains, with quality clothes and gifts. Excellent restaurants too. Bath bun at pump room recommended though Sally Lunn buns were a bit of a disappointment Abbey Hotel is good value for money and has nice central location close to station and all attractions. Ask for a back room though as may get a bit noisy in the early hours from student exuberance on weekend nights. Roman Baths are a must. Best restaurant - Stac Polly on St Mary's Rd (off Royal Mile (Canongate), near Parliament. Great Scottish food - not cheap but definitely worth it.
